To A Most Beautiful Lady
Nigeria, Nigeria, My dear Nigeria.
When will thou regain thy splendour?
In the dawn of 1970,
I was most fortunate to have made
My first date with you.
From then on you became
The apple of my eye.
My greatest moments were spent
With thee.
Words cannot explain the peace,
Joy and serenity I shared with you.
You were to me the soil that
Laid the foundation from
Whence the roots sprout up
And became a fully-grown flower.
My most painful partings were also with thee.
I said some of my last "goodnights"
And "goodbyes",
Without knowing the next hello,
Will be in the hereafter.
Oh Nigeria my love,
What happened to thee?
Who were those nefarious souls?
That have repeatedly raped and abused you,
And sold you into foreign hands.
Who were so naïve, as to devalue your worth?
Who were those selfish, conniving, and rapacious souls?
Who made stealing from you
Their notorious hobby;
Bringing you to your knees.
When will I hear your beautiful mighty voice again?
That has now been reduced to a mere whisper.
When will I smell your sweet scent again?
When will your brightness shine as
The glowing sun it used to be.
My heart grieves for the state you are in now,
To see what you have been subjected to
And how deprived you have been.
Your so-called friends far and wide,
Have seen fit to desert you
The colour green, your own true identity,
Now treated like the scourge of the earth.
Oh my dear lady, God has richly blessed you.
And all those who stole from you and mistreated you,
The Lord is sure to deal with them mercilessly.
For they, like fools ,have said in their hearts,
There is no God and hence carried on
With their wicked ways and
Tarnished your image worldwide.
I, like many other people,
Remember you in my prayers.
And the Father will no doubt,
As time goes bye,
Restore you to your former glory.
I can see a glimpse of the conception,
Of the rebirth emerging.
You will surely rise up again and regain your splendour.
Your beauty will be seen all over the globe.
Who can cease to adore a magnificent piece of diamond!!
Your sweetness will captivate the world.
The strength of your soul will speak for itself.
Your mighty powerful voice will sing
Beautiful songs forever.
No nation can deny your wealth and strength then.
Your so-called friends will come crawling back
Growling to eat at your table.
I’d feed them the crumbs, If I were you.
But if you decide to give them a bite,
I’d watch them like a hawk,
Such friends can only be trusted as far as the eye can see.
A friend in need is a friend indeed.
Where were they in your hour of need!
Only a close small knit of friends stood by you.
Nigeria Nigeria my most beautiful lady.
What the Lord has begun in you, he will see through.
You may appear fragile now, but your strength is within.
My sweet, sweet lady.
I can’t wait to see you truly sparkle again.
I miss the ‘old’ you
but I am sure to meet you again
In the dawn of the 21st century.

Love
What is love?
Love a complex tree,
With many branches.
Love is of a mysterious nature
That leaves room for
Endless interpretations.
It is a universal language.
Even the ants underneath
The earth can relate to love.
Love means different things
To different people.
Love has been blamed a million times for
Things it knew nothing about.
Love has dug the deepest well
Of pain in millions of hearts,
And built the strongest wall
Of rancour in many souls.
Love has led people astray,
Far and wide
From prison to the grave.
Love has surreptitiously
Entertained insanity,
With its prey being none the wiser.
Love has also built up a haven of peace.
Love has surely set many free
From the bondage of despair.
Love has created a shell from
The raging sea, a candle in
The darkest of nights,
Sunshine on the dreariest of days,
Heat in the coldest of winters.
Love has spoken mellifluous words,
Love has spawn beautiful springs in many,
In a way only love knows how.
Love I’d say is temperamental,
You can never truly know where you
Stand with love. But love is something
We all crave for deep down.
Our own definition of love,
We’ll probably never find.

Electric City
Good Morning , Electric city.
It’s just gone past midnight,
From the top of my high-rise mountain,
I see you so dazzling and Vibrant!
A brightly lit Christmas tree.
You feel so cold.
You look so still,
Serene and alone.
In the stillness of this hour,
I wonder who has just seen
The light of life.
Wonder who is dying somewhere,
in your little corner.
Wonder who is laughing somewhere.
Wonder who is crying somewhere.
Wonder who is wishing the night
would have no closure.
Wonder who is bathing in the rapture of love.
I wonder how many babies are being
Conceived this hour, in your little corner.
Ooh I wonder!!
Electric city, you are freezing out there,
Yet you feel so warm, so tender, ripe, and juicy.
Shame, it is only going to last the night;
For in a few hours time,
You become to me a concrete jungle.
Buzzing with eccentricity, where no one
Seems to bother about the next person.
All I’ll see will be walls, walls,
tall brick walls everywhere.
Walls that seem to touch the sky.
People rushing back and forth
Like a headless chicken, not even a
Moment to spare for themselves,
Forget the next man.
From my high-rise mountain,
You’d look nothing, like you
Have done to me, tonight.
I’ll be searching for your beauty,
But it would be nowhere to be found.
Flooded with endless activities
Yet you would look so soulless and bare.
But I’d have this vivid picture of you
In the stillness of the night,
How you took me far and wide,
How you left me wondering.
Though I was savouring the moment
On my own, I had a prince with me.
Together we shared this bliss,
A radiant picture was painted
By you captivating my soul.
Well I bid you goodnight.
New York, New York.
Electric City.
I’d miss you in the morning!

Transient Moment
I drowned in your eyes.
The tides of your gaze swept me away.
The eyes that said it all.
The look that sped up my emotions;
Per chance blind my senses.
The aura that could lead me astray,
Could make me my worst enemy.
Jees I drowned in your eyes.

Trapped.
Trapped between two.
My heart a whirling wind.
The rifts of passion.
Slithering through my veins.
Endless flow of confusion.
My whole being erupted.
Can’t leave one for the other.
Can’t have one and yet the other.
Oh Oh love, why shed your pains in my path.
Why rupture my heart like so.
I’m caught up between two beats,
Their throbbing sounds awake me at nights.
In hiding the only place to be,
A stranger to love.
Now I want to be.
