National Flag
The Belgian flag's colors were taken from the flag of Brabant, a province in the Low Countries (the Netherlands + Belgium ), which extended from Walloon province Brabant Wallon, over Vlaams Brabant (and Brussels) and Antwerpen in Flanders, and in the Netherlands the province of Noord-Brabant. The flag of Brabant was a golden (yellow) lion climbing the hoist, on a black surface, and its tongue and nails were red. It also features on the arms of the kingdom of Belgium. Probably, the ordering of the colors in vertical bands was based on the French flag, since the colors of the Dutch flags were ordered in horizontal bands, and the founding of Belgium was actually a separation from the Netherlands.
Coat of arms
The Belgian coat of arms carries the Belgian lion, a golden upright lion with red claws and red tongue on black ground. Beneath the stroke: unity strengthens.
National Anthem
(the text only exists in French and Dutch, this is the Dutch version)
O dierbaar België
O heilig land der vaad'ren
Onze ziel en ons hart zijn u gewijd.
Aanvaard ons hart en het bloed van onze adren,
Wees ons doel in arbeid en in strijd.
Bloei, o land, in eendracht niet te breken;
Wees immer u zelf en ongeknecht,
Het woord getrouw, dat ge onbevreesd moogt spreken:
Voor Vorst, voor Vrijheid en voor Recht. (x3).
